太極五行步法:進、退、顧、盼、定。這是太極拳前進、後腿、左轉、右轉與中定的五種基本步法,配合身體關節的鬆與定,自然產生太極八法的現象。八法的呈現是無心而為,是關節的鬆與定,配合腰腿帶動手臂所產生的現象,千萬不可以為了擠而擠。

The Fundamental Skills of Tai Chi

The five fundamental steps of Tai Chi are: advance, retreat, look left, glance right, and central equilibruim. These represent the five basic footwork movements in Tai Chi: moving forward, stepping back, turning left, turning right, and establishing a center. When combined with the relaxation and stabilization of the body's joints, these movements naturally give rise to the phenomena of the Eight Methods of Tai Chi. The manifestation of these Eight Methods occurs without conscious intention; it is the result of the relaxation and stabilization of the joints, coordinated with the movements of the waist and legs driving the arms. It is crucial not to force the movements.

太極拳推手技藝依循易經陰陽變化的哲理,習者雙方循環往復,相互黏貼、探聽、揣摩彼此的動向,在不知不覺中提升了,太極拳「以柔克剛」技藝,所必須具備的聽勁與懂勁。

所謂的陰陽是上與下、前與後、左與右的對應關係。如太極拳經:上下前後左右皆然,凡此皆是意,不在外面,有上即有下,有前則有後,有左則有右。

上下、前後、左右反覆運動,促進氣血的循環與腦神經系統,啟發身體各部位的機能,是健身養生的最佳途徑之一。

The Wonderful Applications of Tai Chi Push Hands

The technique of Tai Chi push hands follows the philosophical principles of yin and yang from the I Ching. Practitioners engage in a cyclical interaction, sticking, probing, and exploring each other's movements. In this way, they unconsciously enhance the listening and understanding skills essential for mastering the Tai Chi principle of "overcoming the hard with the soft."

Yin and yang refer to the corresponding relationships between the upper and lower, front and back, left and right. As stated in the Tai Chi classics: "Above and below, in front and behind, to the left and to the right, all of these are intentions that are not external. Where there is an upper, there is a lower; where there is a front, there is a back; where there is a left, there is a right."

The repetitive movements of up and down, back and forth, left and right promote the circulation of qi and blood, as well as the brain's nervous system, stimulating the functions of various body parts. This is one of the best ways to maintain health and wellness.

陰陽相濟

 陰陽相濟

身手輕靈與貫串是推手「牽動四兩撥千斤」所必須具備的要素。身手輕靈毫無拙力與企圖心,才能黏貼跟隨對手身體的重心,輕靈是身體放鬆境界的表現,有輕靈而後才能貫串,貫串是合唯一,是身體整體能量的整合。輕靈與貫串如同陰與陽的對應關係,在彼此互動中產生剛與柔、動與靜、虛與實之間的現象,擅用陰陽變化的對應關係,讓對手難以捉摸陰陽變化的脈絡。尤其兩手、兩腿與身體巧妙的陰陽變化,彼此相互合作,相互協調,更能將「以柔克剛」的技藝發揮到極致。

這也是訓練腿力、扎根,及鬆腰落胯,氣沉丹田的訓練法。

Lightness and connection are essential elements for achieving the principle of "using four ounces to deflect a thousand pounds" in Push Hands. Lightness of the body is free from stiffness and intention, allowing one to adhere to and follow the center of gravity of the opponent's body. This lightness is a manifestation of physical relaxation, and only when one achieves lightness can one attain connection. Connection represents a unity where the overall energy of the body is integrated.

Lightness and connection correspond to the relationship between yin and yang, creating phenomena of hardness and softness, movement and stillness, emptiness and reality in their interactions. By skillfully utilizing the corresponding relationship of yin and yang, one can make it difficult for opponents to grasp the subtle changes of these forces. Particularly, the clever interplay of yin and yang in the hands, legs, and body enhances mutual cooperation and coordination, allowing the technique of "overcoming the hard with the soft" to be brought to its fullest expression.

This also serves as a training method for building leg strength, grounding oneself, relaxing the waist and hips, and sinking the qi to the dantian.
